SUMMARY
Responsible for establishing school bus routes and schedules using automated route and scheduling software and the Student Information System (SIS). Assigns routes to contractors to operate stop to school transportation under the direction of Transportation Director and Supervisors. Assist in the preparation of bus routes and schedules for afterschool activities and field trips. Assists Central personnel and parents regarding inquires of transportation provided stops and times. Responsible for duties in the daily operation of the Transportation system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other required duties may be assigned.
- Read, routes, or distribute incoming mail
- Prepares outgoing mail.
- Locates and attaches appropriate file to correspondence to be answered by employer.
- Types, files, and copy routine correspondence or printed matter, paperwork, records, and reports.
- Answers telephone and gives information to callers or routes call to appropriate official and places outgoing calls.
- Schedules appointments for employer.
- Acts as office receptionist. Greets visitors, ascertains nature of business, and conducts visitors to employer or appropriate person.
- Types announcements, bulletins, newsletters and other materials for distribution.
- Types and maintains reports for central administration.
- Physical stamina and emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control.
- Keeps office, bulletin board, paperwork cabinets and shelves attractive and up to date.
- Types and maintains Transportation calendar and bulletins.
- Perform regular employee record and folder checks.
- Ability and initiative to plan, organize, and carry out assignments under minimum supervision.
- Successfully operates computerized routing system and maneuvers the student information system.
- Calls and checks with parents as it relates to student transportation.
- Schedule and process field trips for payroll and billing.
- Process invoices for payment.
- Develop, issue, and Record J-Call notices.
- Maintains and prepares vehicle and fuel records and requests.
- Update or create runs for approval and disseminates information to the public.
- Produce, report, and maintain the absence/payroll report for Transportation and school bus employees.
- Must have knowledge of Caddo area and skills working with Geographical Information System (GIS) maps.
- Ability to use two way radio systems and GPS system.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance and work non-traditional hours when required.
- Ability to work tactfully and harmoniously with schools, staff, agencies, parents and/or the public.
- Ability to hold records, reports and conversations in confidence.
- Pleasant and correct telephone manners.
- Neat, well-groomed, appropriately dressed appearance.
QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS RELATED
Ability to type at a minimum of 60 correct words per minute, take dictation at a minimum of 80 correct words per minute, operate office machines such as a computer, copying machine, computer, word processor, and calculator.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED with additional specialized or technical training; one or two years job-related experience; or equivalent combination of experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to communicate with supervisor and other employees. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate with supervisor and other employees.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
